CO-SITING SOLUTIONS - UMTS (UNIVERSAL MOBILE TELECOMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM) NETWORK

For network operators implementing a UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) network, signal quality is the dominant issue. They need to offer high capacity and provide services with high bit rates. Aesthetics and compliance with regulations are other key concerns.

Co-siting is one approach to meeting these challenges. Through co-siting, operators get the most out of existing base station sites, minimizing permitting problems and the added expense of new sites.

DUAL-BAND FILTERS FOR 2G AND 3G SYSTEMS

Powerwave Technologies' filter products for mobile telecommunication range from standard filters for co-siting applications to highly customized filter panels bringing together a variety of functions and filters in a single box. We work closely with our OEM customers to develop filter products that meet their size and performance demands.

The filters span a wide range of sizes, levels of complexity and intended application areas. Our mini filters, the smallest we offer, are intended for micro and pico base station applications and repeater applications.

Further products in this field include dual band filters for 2G systems that combine GSM 900MHz/GSM 1,800MHz and 800MHz/1,900MHz systems, as well as dual band filters that combine 2G and 3G technologies such as GSM 1,800MHz/UMTS and GSM 900MHz/UMTS. We are also developing triple band filters that combine GSM 900MHz/GSM 1,800MHz/UMTS.

HYBRID AND FILTER COMBINERS

Powerwave Technologies is one of the leading manufacturers of hybrid and filter combiners in the world. Our highly integrated designs minimize the amount of electronic boards and cabling. All critical parameters, including vibration, EMC, temperature and power handling capability, are subjected to intensive testing.

MICROWAVE RADIO FILTERS

Powerwave Technologies provides leading-edge microwave radio products for data and telecommunications networks around the globe. These include:

• Microwave filters - for radio links in frequency bands 7GHz to 38GHz and other radio-based components in radio link installations
• PDH microwave filter - the most modern PDH product on the market, designed for GSM and UMTS operators, as well as private, public and fixed network operators

We make use of state-of-the-art design, software and production technologies to take PDH microwave transmission networks to a higher level of flexibility, reliability, management and life-cycle economy.

TOWER MOUNTED AMPLIFIERS (TMA) AND BOOSTERS (TMB)

TMAs enable base stations to receive mobile signals more clearly in a wider coverage area than they could otherwise achieve. By increasing coverage of the base station (BTS), the number of sites can be reduced.

Powerwave Technologies' TMAs also improve the signal quality and/or reduce the transmitted power of the mobile telephone. This normally results in an increase of successful call attempts, a reduction of dropped calls, maximized data rate, improved call quality and extension of battery life.

Powerwave Technologies' TMB systems boost the output power from, for example, a micro BTS to full macro BTS power at the antenna. The built-in TMA increases the receive sensitivity to match the increased radiated transmitted power and a fully balanced network is achieved.
