The German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) has declared 7 Layers AG in Germany the first officially accredited test laboratory for products used in a new communications network for all security authorities and organizations in Germany. This is a further important step to establish the new TETRA BOS digital voice and data communications system.
The German Federal Agency for Digital Radio and Security Authorities and Organizations (BDBOS) is currently setting up a digital radio network to be used by all security authorities such as police forces, rescue services and fire brigades in Germany. Some of the federal states have already started using this new technology.
Strict testing for reliability
Due to the nature of this service, the reliability of the network and all fixed and mobile terminals is of immense importance. For that reason, all products have to be closely examined with regard to their functionality and interoperability. In the future all products used within the BOS network will be examined by a BSI-certified ISO17025 test laboratory.
7 Layers, a leading and experienced test and service centre for wireless communications industries, is the first laboratory to be certified by the BSI for this purpose. "7 Layers passed the strict and lengthy qualification process successfully because the company conforms to the BSI's rigorous requirements for competency, reliability and independency," explains Bernd Kowalski, department manager for certification, approval and conformity and new technologies at the BSI.
"We are very proud to have become part of such a significant project," says Thomas Jaeger, director of business development at 7 Layers. "It is absolutely necessary to ensure the functionality, reliability and interoperability of radio products which are going to be used in the BOS digital radio network. We have already accompanied several successful projects and our engineers have become specialist in supporting manufacturers with these demanding technical requirements."
