Avitec - Repeaters and Distributed Antenna System for Radio CoverageAs the first repeater manufacturer in the world, high performances have always been a distinctive trademark of Avitec. Avitec offers reliable radio coverage solutions that lead to reduced lifetime cost. Situated north of Stockholm in Sweden, Avitec plays an active part in the development of ETSI standards and is one of the world's strongest partners in repeater systems. Through a broad as well as unique product portfolio, Avitec provides solutions for an effective roll out of network coverage in all types of environments. Maintenance costs as well as outage time is kept low through the use of advanced supervision tools. The product portfolio includes repeaters for GSM, EDGE, UMTS, TETRA and GSM-R. REPEATERS FOR DEPLOYMENT OF 3G NETWORKSAs 3G networks are rolled out around the world, mobile operators are all looking to offer subscribers reliable coverage at an affordable price. They require seamless 3G outdoors as well as in indoor environments. Avitec's recent launch of an innovative generation of repeaters offers mobile operators unrivaled opportunities to simplify the deployment of a 3G network. In rural areas, EDGE is deployed as complementary coverage to WCDMA and in urban regions indoor coverage of GSM, EDGE or WCDMA is provided through a fiber optic distribution system. THE FREQUENCY TRANSLATING CONCEPTBy shifting the frequency, isolation requirements are reduced. In other words, the necessary separation between the pick-up and server antennas can be as low as 3m, which means very short masts can be used. As the isolation is much easier to achieve through operating on two different frequencies, the gain in the remote unit can be significantly increased so that superior output powers are obtained. In other words, large areas can be covered at a minimized cost. The units can also be deployed more easily as there is no need for line-of-sight between the base station and repeater due to its high gain. NO ISOLATION BETWEEN ANTENNASMany operators have licenses on both the 900MHz and the 1,800MHz bands. The cell sizes are generally much larger on the 900MHz frequencies compared to the 1,800MHz frequencies. Considering this, Avitec has taken the concept of frequency translation even one step further. By transmitting the link on the 1,800 band, while providing the actual coverage on the 900 band, the isolation requirement is zero. There is no more need for any separation between the pick-up and server antennas; actually the pick-up and server antenna can be placed back to back! EDGE REPEATERS - THE PATH TO MOBILE INTERNETEDGE forms the foundation for one seamless GSM and WCDMA network that is transparent to the end user. The isolation requirement in an EDGE environment is much higher compared to GSM. By shifting the frequency the isolation requirement, even in an EDGE environment, is only 3m. Output power is uniformly high, resulting in coverage comparable to that of base stations. FiberDAS FIBER FED DISTRIBUTED ANTENNA SYSTEM FOR INDOOR APPLICATIONSAvitec's active indoor coverage solution enabling multi-band usage gives operators a competitive edge. A flexible Fiber Distributed Antenna System enables efficient use of available frequency spectrum and allows for effortless frequency planning. Easy installation is achieved with optical connectors and automatic gain leveling. Furthermore, the total cost of ownership is in line with conventional passive solutions. Using single mode fiber, no more than 4dB optical loss is achieved at a maximum 6,000m run length. The system is easily expandable to encompass additional operators or frequency bands or provide additional coverage.
