Avitec to Provide TETRA Coverage in Brescia Metro

17 March 2006 12:56

Avitec has signed a contract with Alcatel for the provision of a complete TETRA repeater coverage solution in the metro of Brescia, a city close to Milan in Italy. The contract, that includes delivery of hardware, software, commissioning and design engineering, will be finalised in 2013. Brescia Metro is made up of 12km of tunnels where more than 30 fibre-fed repeaters are used to feed a radiating cable that transmits the TETRA signal.

Alcatel is responsible, just like in other driverless-metro projects already accomplished with success (e.g. Copenhagen Metro), for the supply and the integration of the TETRA radio network, as well as the IP network, PABX network, line telephony and CCTV among other systems. Alcatel chose to work with Avitec because of its expertise in this segment of TETRA coverage in confined environments and the competitive pricing of its high-performance equipment. The proposed system design was also an important factor in making the final decision.

Avitec and Alcatel have previously worked together in TETRA-related projects. The most recent one was realised in the northern part of Sweden (Bothniabanan) where repeaters for TETRA as well as for GSM-R were deployed.
