Avitec AB, the first repeater manufacturer in the world, announced today that it has acquired the technology assets of US-based Littlefeet Inc., a provider of distributed coverage solutions for wireless carriers. The acquired Littlefeet® assets include SPICE™, related trade secrets and know-how, as well as patent and trademark portfolios.
Littlefeet’s SPICE™ (Small Profile Intelligent Coverage Element) network technologies combine the best features of micro-base stations, repeaters and smart antennas to deliver specific benefits to wireless carriers: better coverage capabilities, scalability, wireless backhaul and easier site acquisition. SPICE™ addresses carriers’ needs for mobile voice, high-speed data, and internet accessible wireless services for a fraction of the cost of traditional tower-intensive networks.
An individual SPICE™ unit is about the size of a skateboard. With its small size, as well as its reduced RF (radio frequency) output level, SPICE™ is an attractive, community-friendly alternative to traditional networks. For operators, SPICE’s easier and more rapid site acquisition decreases time-to-market and leads to a faster return on investment. SPICE™ is currently deployed by some of the largest wireless operators in the world, and in Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia.
Avitec acquired the Littlefeet assets from Corporate Management, Inc., assignee for the benefit of creditors of Littlefeet, Inc. CERIAN Technology Ventures, LLC acted as intellectual-property transaction advisors to Corporate Management and Littlefeet, assisting in maximizing the value of the technology assets.
“The Littlefeet technology acquisition augments our portfolio of coverage enhancement technologies,” said Håkan Samuelson, Avitec’s managing director. “Avitec intends to continue offering our customers the finest selection of sophisticated repeaters, designed to solve a broad array of coverage challenges in urban, rural and in-building environments.”
“Right from the start, we saw tremendous synergy between Avitec’s product portfolio and Littlefeet’s innovative SPICE™ technology,” said Brian Sagi, President and CEO of CERIAN Technology Ventures. “We are proud to have a leading company such as Avitec become the new owner of the Littlefeet innovative hardware and software assets.”
