Aeroflex Adds Exclusive Test Support for PassPort® Trunking Protocol to the IFR 2975 Radio Test Set

16 February 2005

Aeroflex underscored its leadership in private mobile radio with the addition of exclusive support for testing the PassPort® protocol. Aeroflex now delivers PassPort testing through its IFR 2975 radio test set and Release 1.9.1 software, becoming the first company to support complete testing of PassPort radio systems. Selected for its affordability and theft protection features, PassPort systems are gaining rapid acceptance in the United States for private networks.

With Release 1.9.1 for the IFR 2975 radio test system, Aeroflex adds many new testing features and enables five new options. Four of the new “try before you buy” options are: P25 Explicit Messaging, P25 Secondary Control Channel Broadcast (SCCB) Messaging, P25 Adjacent Status Broadcast Messages, and P25 Unit to Unit / PSTN Interconnect. Release 1.9.1 also includes a new audio tracking generator for sweeping audio circuits, improved LTR Ò trunking features, and new oscilloscope and audio analyzer markers.

Version 1.9.1 is free and can be downloaded from Aeroflex’s Web site at www.P25.com.

New Options Extend Aeroflex Leadership in Providing Complete P25 Testing

Five new radio test options are now available for order. Four of the new options can be ordered for a 30-day “Try Before You Buy” period from Aeroflex’s web site at www.P25.com.

PassPort (not available for “Try Before You Buy”): The PassPort radio protocol option provides the latest features for testing PassPort radios and repeaters, including the new VHF PassPort functions:

  • Explicit Messaging: supports explicit messaging for trunked VHF / UHF radio systems that use extended messaging for the latest P25 trunking systems
  • SCCB Messaging: supports the Secondary Control Channel Broadcast message for either explicit or normal P25 trunked operation. This feature allows the user to set up simulated control channels to verify how P25 radios switch over to secondary control channels
  • Adjacent Status Broadcast Messaging: supports the Adjacent Channel Broadcast message for explicit P25 trunked operation. This feature allows the user to set up a simulated adjacent control channel to verify how P25 radios switch over to adjacent control channels in roaming modes
  • Unit to Unit and PSTN Interconnect: supports Unit to Unit and PSTN interconnect calls in the explicit mode of operation. This feature allows users to verify that a radio can generate and receive Unit to Unit and PSTN calls

Many New PMR Test Features Come Standard with Upgrade

New features included in Release 1.9.1 are:

  • Scope Markers: supports markers for the integrated dual-channel oscilloscope. Markers allow the user to easily set and verify amplitude and frequency parameters of audio signals
  • Screen Capture Functions: using the front panel HOLD key or the web server that is supplied standard on all IFR 2975 units, the user can capture spectrum displays, oscilloscope displays, or any current front screen displays
  • Vrms Option for Audio Function Generators: select Vrms in addition to Vpp on sine waves generated from the function generator audio outputs
  • Demod Audio Routing Generator: recover demodulated audio from AM, FM or P25 radio systems and use that audio to modulate either an AM, FM or P25 carrier
  • Addition of STD511 Tone to BER Meter: automatically receive, demodulate and calculate Bit-Error Rate (BER) from a STD511 V.52 tone to assist in tuning various transmitters deployed in the market

Availability

Delivery for the IFR 2975 is six weeks upon receipt of order. Release 1.9.1 is available immediately and can be downloaded for free at www.P25.com. Details on all of the IFR 2975’s software options, including price and availability, can be obtained by contacting your Aeroflex sales representative.
