Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a rapidly evolving technology. RFID has become outstanding in a wide range of data capture and identification applications, from ticketing and access control to industrial automation. The major benefits are reducing costs and increasing information in the supply chain but there are many other benefits.
The most common application of RFID is to use it like a barcode. Advantages over conventional barcodes are higher information capacity, possibility to change and add information as well as operation without direct visual contact. In future RFID will cover applications from item identification (Electronic Product Code - EPC) and environment monitoring in stores, warehouses and logistics to tickets with prepaid additional services in concerts and amusement parks.
