Major Slovak Telecoms Service Provider Switches to Ascom’s ‘All-in-One’ Benchmarking and Optimisation Tool to Ensure Overall Mobile Network QoS
Slovak service provider Eurotel has joined the ever-growing list of companies worldwide who rely on Ascom’s market-leading QVoice solution to monitor and optimise mobile network quality.
Eurotel service quality department supervisor Stefan Caputa says: “Before QVoice, we used a CellAD monitoring system for NMT and GSM networks. It was a very useful system, but Ericsson stopped support and development in 2001. The later version did not fulfil our needs – and that was when we discovered QVoice.
“We find QVoice to be a very progressive system, which fully replaces the previous system for voice measurement and is also well designed for data measurement purposes (GPRS). In addition, the user training was very professional, with well-prepared materials and practical demonstrations.”
QVoice will be used by Eurotel’s service quality department, monitoring department and network optimisation department. The service quality department is part of the engineering and operation division, and cooperates closely with the network optimisation and network quality departments. It is responsible for measuring, evaluating and reporting service quality from the customer’s perspective.
Initially, QVoice will be used primarily for regular drive tests covering the whole of Slovakia, to ensure nationwide network quality. The drive test routes were designed in co-operation with Eurotel’s marketing department and strategic planners. They focus primarily on population centres, motorways and other major communication routes.
In addition to monitoring its own network, Eurotel will use QVoice to benchmark its performance against that of all other Slovak mobile networks, measuring the voice quality of 1,000 calls per network per half year, as well as GPRS testing involving more than 1,000 PDP-context activations per network per quarter.
Test data output will initially be used primarily for regular management report purposes, but data will also be shared with the optimisation department, who will be provided with ‘thematic maps’ based on QVoice data, stored on a central server.
Eurotel is also considering the purchase of the QVoice Map and QVoice Expert accessories.
Eurotel also plans to use QVoice for indoor testing, to ensure QoS in areas such as railway stations, airports and department stores, as well as for network optimisation.
QVoice, which first hit the market in 1993 as the first system able to use real speech for voice quality measurements, now has well over 100 customers in more than 50 countries.
Building on its early success, QVoice is also now leading the way when it comes to testing and monitoring 'third-generation' (3G) networks.
In addition to being the recognised world leader for benchmarking purposes, QVoice meets all the needs of radio frequency (RF) engineers, with their specific focus on optimising the overall quality of individual networks while simultaneously identifying and solving specific problems as quickly and effectively as possible. Indeed, it is rapidly becoming an indispensable tool for all major engineering applications, from network commissioning via optimisation and troubleshooting, through to more recent – but increasingly key – issues such as GPRS verification.
