In March 2007, Astellia was selected by Voxtel to extend its GSM network monitoring system (installed in 2005) to its GPRS network. Mr Serghei Tirziu, QoS and Supervision Manager - explains what he appreciates in Astellia solutions and service.
Can you briefly introduce your company?
S.A.Voxtel is the first and largest GSM mobile operator in Moldova in terms of numbers of subscribers. It gathers more than 900,000 subscribers of the 4.5 million inhabitants.
It is based in the capital city Chisinau. It is a FTMI subsidiary employing 350 people. It should integrate Orange group soon and should be re-branded.
What is your function in this company?
As the Quality of Service and Supervision Manager of Voxtel, I am responsible for monitoring, performance and quality issues on our GSM network. I manage both groups: Quality of Service (two engineers) and Network Supervision (seven engineers). I have a first telecom experience by MoldTelecom, the national fix operator.
Which Astellia equipment was installed?
A complete GSM/Roaming Astellia solution, including hardware and software, was installed to cover our whole GSM network.
We intend to monitor complete GPRS network with Astellia solution as well. We already did a positive troubleshooting, having used it only for some weeks.
What kind of issue do you (and your team) face?
Astellia solution proved to be very appropriate to address troubleshooting:
* GSM network QoS data capture, observation and analysis in order to improve the QoS (KPIs),
* Network dimensioning and performance analysis (location of hotspots),
* Subscribers and networks problems follow-up (trouble ticketing for O&M).
How does Astellia solution help you?
Having A-interface signalling database, we could analyse the different subscribers' behaviours within the network.
We can easily find out bad circuits on the A-interface and the problematic zones (cells).
We can research the causes after subscribers' complaints. We solve trouble ticketing by tracing all calls and finding what and where the problems are.
We are very interested in Loss of Roamers analysis too.
Astellia solution also includes all the reporting functions which allow us to automatically elaborate (hence saving time) weekly report for different departments Management, Marketing, Customer care.
How do these solutions/services contribute to improve your business and your revenues?
First of all, we appreciate the quick alerting through email messages. We can quickly react and troubleshoot BSS and some NSS problems.
Shortly after installation, after processing of the signalling database, we already could look through bad circuits and bad inter-working between NSS elements (RCP, HLR, SSP).
The other good point is the Loss of Roamers analysis, which helps us increase our revenue.
Loss of Roamers analysis (Location Update and Loss areas) conducted on a monthly basis allows us to find out the operators with technical or commercial problems, as well as to follow up the areas where our coverage is worst than competitors'. Thus we can improve our network in these areas and increase our revenues.
