Astellia's 2009 Turnover Confirms its Successful International Development

19 February 2010

Astellia, a company specialising in equipment that maximises QoS management and the performance of mobile networks, has announced a slight increase in sales to €25.6m ($36m) in 2009, with a rapid upturn in orders during the second semester.

In an unstable economic environment and a mobile phone sector marked by corporate restructuring, Astellia's commercial strategy was held on track thanks to its success in new markets. Its policy of winning new shares of the international market again bore fruit in 2009. More than 25 new customers selected Astellia products, representing almost 30% of annual orders. Over 2009, Astellia showed modest growth and orders, most of which arrived during the last quarter of the year, progressed by 7%.

International sales represented 75% of total sales in 2009, up 17% compared to 2008. Astellia's increasing globalisation is the result of the expansion strategy implemented by the company since 2007. Performance has been particularly satisfactory in Africa and the Middle East, with major new clients in Arab countries. In South America, where a first significant contract has been signed with an American mobile operator, and in the Caribbean, Astellia has strengthened its position, helped by strong expansion in the mobile market and the migration of networks to 3G in these emerging economies.

Prospects for 2010

The level of orders in 2009, amounting to more than €30m, and the satisfactory state of our order book at the current time enable Astellia to look forward optimistically to 2010. Astellia's main goals for this year are:

  • To continue to win shares of the international market by focusing more specifically on geographical regions that enjoyed strong investment in 2009, such as India, the Gulf States and the American continent
  • To provide adequate backing for the increase in its service activity, reflecting the trust shown to Astellia by its clients

"In the current climate of cost-saving and increased competition brought about by the economic environment and given the weakness of the dollar, we have successfully maintained a dynamic commercial strategy," says Christian Queffelec, CEO and co-founder of Astellia. "Last year, 2009, we were able to prove our ability to adapt to the new situation and to the differences in technological cycles. We also showed our reactivity in meeting the needs of leading names in the mobile phone sector. We will therefore continue to implement our strategy serenely in 2010, combining expansion and client proximity."
