CTS International sells Ellipse Microwave Planning Tool to H3G
Paris (France), 4th December 2006 - CTS International, a leading provider of network planning, design and optimisation solutions, has successfully completed its contract with Hutchison 3G Austria GmbH (Group Hutchison Whampoa Ltd) for its Ellipse Microwave Planning Tool Suite.

Hutchison 3G Austria (H3G), a 100% subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa, has bought an important number of Ellipse Microwave Planning licences for the planning and design of its complete national 3G radio transmission network.
Josef Eckel, Head of Transmission Engineering at Hutchison 3G, says, "We have to design and plan our transmission network meticulously. With the Advanced Frequency Assignment and Automatic Channel Allocation (ACA) of Ellipse Microwave Planning from CTS International, we can optimise the re-use of available frequencies over the whole network and reduce interference significantly."
H3G was looking for a solution featuring an easy deployment model for effective collaborative work, together with easy data sharing and consistency. "Another criterion for choosing Ellipse Microwave Planning is its capacity for batch reporting, which proved to be better than in other planning tools and which adds to fast and efficient communication between different network planning departments," says Josef Eckel.
As transmission network spending represents a significant portion of total network costs, the transmission planning engineers at Hutchison 3G Austria face the challenge of delivering the most reliable network experience while at the same time keeping capital and operational expenditure at a minimum.
Hutchison 3G's transmission planning and engineering is carried out from three regional offices. The Ellipse Microwave Planning solution can be accessed from all three locations and is connected to a unique database with different security access levels according to user profiles. In addition, Ellipse Microwave Planning allows data to be easily imported and exported from current market standard tools and from Excel.
The Austrian mobile telecoms market is a fiercely competitive market, with five mobile telecoms operators competing for a subscriber base of only eight million users. This results in the Austrians having one of Europe's lowest tariffs. Tight cost monitoring is vital to stay competitive in the Austrian market. Hutchison 3G was the first sole mobile multimedia provider in Austria and today is market leader with 370,000 UMTS subscribers (August 2006 data).
