Quarter brick C-BUS converter addresses telecom and networking industry trend for intermediate, 12Vdc distributed power.
Cherokee International, a leading manufacturer of custom and standard power supplies, recently announced an ultra high efficiency C-BUS converter in a quarter brick package. This highly integrated power solution addresses the trend for high performance power conversion driven by new chip set technology for telecom and networking applications. Cherokee’s C-BUS (CBQ2548G1) converter provides 25A in a 12V nominal output at an efficiency of 96%.
Cherokee’s intermediate bus converter supports the emerging two-stage DC power conversion architecture aimed at the 48V systems that provide power to multiple non-isolated point-of-load converters (POL) downstream. Cherokee's latest quarter-brick, ultra high efficiency C-BUS converter provides a quasi, or loosely regulated, 12Vdc isolated intermediate bus. The intermediate bus voltage powers the myriad of non-isolated POL converters, while the increased efficiency minimizes the losses when using a two-stage 12V driven architecture.
With a narrow input of 42Vdc to 53Vdc and boasting a high power density of 210W/in³, Cherokee’s latest converter is a smart DC transformer that runs open loop to maximize efficiency and output current yet minimizes the component count. By eliminating life-limiting components such as electrolytic capacitors, the C-BUS intermediate dc-dc converter takes an industry lead in providing a reliable, cost-effective solution for today’s latest digital circuits. Thus the C-BUS is ideal for applications that require high currents at very low voltages provided by the non-isolated POL converters.
The C-BUS converters meet basic insulation requirements of EN60950 and come complete with vital industry standard features such as remote on/off, over-temperature protection, output over-current and over-voltage protection, and input under-voltage protection. Other features include 1500Vdc input to output isolation, no minimum load requirements, constant frequency operation for predictable EMI characteristics, low ripple and noise, and auto restart after fault shutdown. The C-BUS converter comes in both open frame and base plate versions.
