While the electronic components on the PCB are not an option for the cutting room floor, the board itself can be. We are working on technologies that will allow printed circuits to follow the internal or external shapes of the devices that they give life to. Here is a copper pattern that wraps around this carbon fiber airfoil. |
These gears, which were laser micromachined out of fused silica, are an example of precision made parts in material that is known to be difficult to work with. |
US Photonics was asked to show the ability of their Femtosecond laser to ablate flammable materials by laser engraving a match head for use on the cover of a magazine. This demonstrates the lack of heat transfer from the femtosecond pulses, which makes it possible to ablate combustible materials and even high explosives. |
Our unique system also allows us to perform additive machining using Two-Photon Polymerization for true 3-D prototyping. Shown is a 100 micron long hexagonal air bridge in SU8. |
By utilizing femtosecond laser pulses, we are able to produce cleaner features without the need for additional post processing, saving time and money. Our cuts also leave the subsurface layer intact and do not cause heat affected zones and crystal structure rearrangements. |
